U.S. Abortion Doctor's Murder Outrages Activists

October 26, 1998 - 0:0
WASHINGTON A New York doctor who was the target of anti-abortion protests was shot and killed by a sniper at his home, outraging abortion rights activists who on Saturday demanded better protection. Dr. Barnett Slepian, 51, was killed on Friday night near Buffalo, New York, just days after authorities issued a warning that abortion clinic workers should be on alert because four doctors had been shot in recent years in early autumn.

The shooting was quickly denounced by President Bill Clinton and U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. (Reuter)
